The Board of Education of the Waterville Central School District invites highly qualified educational leaders to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools, with the successful candidate expected to assume the position on or about July 2025. The Waterville CSD is a partnership of students, staff, families and community dedicated to educating the whole-child for personalized success.

This is a fully confidential search for all applicants, from receipt of application through appointment to the superintendency. The Board is being assisted in the selection by Patricia N. The Waterville Central School District enrolls approximately 764 students across 74 square miles; has approximately 154 faculty members, staff and support personnel; and an annual operating budget of approximately $22 million. The District is a student-focused educational community dedicated to academic excellence, innovation and the holistic development of every learner. The District includes Memorial Park Elementary School, Waterville Jr./Sr. High School, and a bus garage, and has built a legacy spanning more than 150 years through strategic investments in education, infrastructure, and community partnerships. At Memorial Park Elementary School, students develop a strong literacy foundation beginning in pre-K with small class sizes, personalized instruction and evidence-based programs like the Science of Reading and the Positivity Project, which fosters social-emotional growth and character development. Waterville Jr./Sr. High School complements these efforts by offering robust academic opportunities, including eight Advanced Placement courses, an NYSED-approved Agriculture Career and Technical Education program and a wide range of extracurricular activities and athletics that prepare graduates for college, careers and military service. The District’s commitment to continuous improvement through curriculum development, professional growth and strategic planning, along with support from the Waterville Central School District Foundation and the Brothertown Scholarship, ensures that every student is well-equipped to excel in a dynamic, ever-changing world.

Nestled in central New York’s Mohawk Valley, Waterville spans southern Oneida and part of Madison Counties—just 14 miles south of Utica and 50 miles east of Syracuse—with easy access via New York State Routes 12 and 20. This primarily residential community blends suburban convenience with rural charm, enriched by small businesses and dairy farms while remaining close-knit despite its proximity to larger business hubs. Prestigious educational institutions support lifelong learning, and exceptional recreational and cultural attractions—from the Adirondacks and Catskills to renowned performing arts centers and museums—enhance the quality of life. Waterville is a vibrant, welcoming community where personal and professional aspirations thrive.

The ideal candidate for the position of Superintendent of Schools will be an experienced and visionary leader with demonstrated success fostering academic excellence and community engagement. They should possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating a genuine commitment to transparency and collaboration. This leader has a proven track record of actively listening to and respecting the perspectives of students, staff, parents and community members, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

The successful candidate should be an experienced educational leader, including expertise in curriculum development, community engagement and fiscal management. The Board seeks a student-centered superintendent who consistently prioritizes the success, safety and well-being of every student, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive.

The successful candidate will possess a clear and inspiring vision for the District, utilizing innovative, proactive leadership to drive positive change in a small, rural environment. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills, ensuring transparency by effectively engaging with staff, students, and families, and will show a strong commitment to supporting and advocating for teachers and staff by fostering a positive work environment that promotes retention and excellence. The successful candidate will be committed to long-term leadership, providing stable and consistent guidance that supports ongoing growth and continuity within the District.

The candidate should hold or be eligible for New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) and demonstrate a long-term commitment to the district, fostering meaningful change and sustainable growth.
