Position Overview:
The Assistant Head of School is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing essential day-to-day operations and supporting the overall mission of the school. Reporting directly to the Head of School, this full-time role encompasses leadership in student support, policy implementation, operational management, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders. The Assistant Head of School works closely with students, staff, families, and the broader school community to ensure a safe, organized, and effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Behavior Management
Oversee the implementation of school-wide behavior support systems and protocols.
Manage student discipline procedures and partner with families and staff to support individual behavior plans.
Promote a positive school climate aligned with the school's educational goals.
Policy & Operations
Implement and monitor compliance with key operational policies, including attendance and safety.
Manage the school-wide calendar, including staff meetings, events, and key deadlines.
Facilitate staff communication around scheduling and policy updates.
Student Services & IEP Oversight
Provide leadership and oversight for student case management.
Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings and student conferences, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and best practices.
Support teachers and service providers in delivering effective, individualized support to students.
Community Engagement & Collaboration
Act as a liaison to the Parent Association, supporting family engagement and collaboration.
Partner with the Admissions team in reviewing prospective student applications, conducting student observations, and contributing to enrollment decisions.
Collaborate with the Development team to support fundraising events, donor engagement, and communications as needed.
Leadership & School Culture
Participate in school leadership meetings and assist in strategic planning and decision-making.
Help lead school-wide initiatives and events in alignment with the schools mission and priorities.
Collaboratively lead the WASC accreditation process in partnership with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and supporting continuous school improvement.
Support the Head of School with other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Clear Mild/Moderate Education Specialist credential (preferred), or Multi-subject General Education teaching credential.
Masters degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (preferred).
Valid administrative or supervisory credential (preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education or a related leadership role.
Deep understanding of IEPs, student support services, and special education law.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Proven ability to lead collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic school setting.
Experience working with families, community partners, and interdisciplinary teams.
