The Brawley Elementary School District (BESD) serves transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade students at five school sites. Approximately 4,000 students attend Brawley Elementary schools. The make-up of our student population is 81% Hispanic, 15% White, 3% Black, and 1% of other ethnic groups. The District has approximately 534 certificated and classified employees.
Brawley Elementary School District comprises of four TK-6 schools and one middle school (grades 7-8). The four TK-6 schools are J.W. Oakley Elementary School, Myron D. Witter Elementary School, Miguel Hidalgo Elementary School, and Phil D. Swing Elementary School. The middle school is Barbara Worth Junior High School.
The mission of BESD is “To educate all students to achieve their potential through quality instructional programs in a safe learning environment and with a relentless commitment to continuous academic improvement in collaboration with staff, parents, and the community.” Barbara Worth Jr. High School was awarded the Golden Bell Award for the Youth Cinema Project in 2020. BESD has just launched the Dual-Language immersion Program, which has proven to be a success and will continue to expand due to high demand. These awards and recognitions are a testament to the District’s robust core instructional program. Moreover, BESD offers various enrichment programs, including Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), band, sports, and After School Education and Safety (ASES).
