Spanning more than 120 square miles in the heart of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Central Bucks School District (CBSD) is one of the largest school districts in Pennsylvania, serving approximately 17,000 students, their families and the Central Bucks community. Students in grades kindergarten through 12 attend 23 CBSD schools across nine municipalities: Chalfont, Doylestown and New Britain boroughs, and Buckingham, Doylestown, New Britain, Plumstead, Warrington and Warwick townships. CBSD employs more than 3,000 faculty and staff serving students attending 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools.
CBSD’s 15 elementary schools lay the foundation for students’ academic and extracurricular success. Teachers practice the art of teaching as a science – responding to the needs of students and accelerating or providing supports so that each child has access to the resources they need to succeed. The elementary Quest program is an example of the district's commitment to building modern and future-forward skills like critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. Each school has strong community support, visible in the many ways that teachers and principals work collaboratively with parent and guardian organizations to build school cultures that make learning fun.
The district's five middle schools are built around a teaming model, designed to build community and collaboration in and among all students and staff. CBSD’s middle school teachers engage in student-centered, real world learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving. They work to prepare students for the demands of the future through instruction in technology and digital citizenship. Students are invited to discover strengths and interests through exploratory Specials programming and a variety of extra and co-curricular activities, in a supportive environment that encourages good decisions, healthy lifestyles and emotional wellness.
CBSD’s three high schools offer rigorous academic programming complimented by strong and thoughtful technology integration. With a focus on helping students identify and prepare for their own unique post-secondary path, each school takes care to educate the whole child – nurturing their social and emotional well-being in addition to serving their academic needs through a wide variety of curricular offerings, including Advanced Placement classes. The three schools also feature state-of-the-art learning environments, underscoring the community’s commitment to education.
CBSD students regularly perform well above state averages on standardized tests. More than 90 percent of students further their education at two- and four-year colleges, and CBSD has a graduation rate of more than 99 percent. Approximately 98 percent of CBSD special education students are served and educated in district schools. Currently, 11 percent of the student population receive special education services, and seven percent receive gifted education services.
