School Occupational Therapist Jobs in New Mexico
A School Occupational Therapist is a vital member of school administration. Their main role is to help students with disabilities or those who struggle with physical, sensory, or cognitive issues to better integrate into the school environment and improve their academic and social abilities. They work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to create and implement strategies and interventions aimed at helping students achieve their full potential. Important skills for a School Occupational Therapist include strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as a broad knowledge of various therapy techniques and educational strategies. They should be patient, empathetic, and able to adapt their approach to suit the needs of each student. Required certifications typically include a master's degree in occupational therapy, national certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, and state licensure. Potential job roles a person may have before becoming a School Occupational Therapist can range from an Occupational Therapy Assistant, Pediatric Occupational Therapist, or a general Occupational Therapist in a clinical setting. These roles provide the necessary experience and understanding of occupational therapy practices and interventions.
