School Physical Therapist Jobs in Hawaii

A School Physical Therapist plays a pivotal role in the educational administration by helping students with physical disabilities to achieve their full academic potential. They work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each child. They might also provide therapeutic intervention and assistance in classrooms and other school environments to ensure students can participate fully in school activities. Their responsibilities include assessing students' physical capabilities, creating treatment plans, and monitoring progress.

Important skills for a School Physical Therapist include excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, strong problem-solving skills, and a high level of physical fitness and dexterity. They should also have a good understanding of child development and a compassionate, patient manner. As for certifications, a School Physical Therapist must hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, a state license to practice physical therapy, and often additional certification in pediatric physical therapy. Before becoming a School Physical Therapist, individuals may have roles such as a Physical Therapy Aide, a Physical Therapy Assistant, or a Pediatric Physical Therapist in a clinical setting.
